Zhangjiajie – A Family Adventure

Zhangjiajie, the location famous for the floating mountains from the 2009 film Avatar, is known for its impressive landscape and unforgettable natural beauty. For families it can be an impressive off the beaten track location which can lead to a really exciting and inventive family experience. Here is a walk through some of the most important experiences.

The Tianmen Cave

The world’s famous mountain hole, also known to be the door between heaven and earth, is a natural hole in the Tianmen Mountain which reaches up to 131.5 meters high. The 999 steps lead to the entrance of the cave and are called the ’latter to heaven’. Once reached the top of the cave, the view on the other side is miraculous.

Wulingyuan Scenic Area

The Wulingyuan Scenic area is noted for having over 3,000 quartzite sandstones pillars shooting up from the ground and reaching over 200 meters high. This area was first listed in 1992 as a UNESCO Wold Heritage Site and in also known for its natural beauties of pools, gorges, caves, natural bridges, waterfalls and more.

Bailong Elevator

The Bailong Elevator is the highest and heaviest outdoor elevator in the world. This glass elevator is built into the side of a huge cliff in the Wulingyuan area, reaching 330 meters high. The view in the way up and from the top is astonishing.

Baofeng Lake

Baofeng Lake is located in Wulingyuan Scenic area, featuring marvels waterfalls, lakes and beautiful nature. Taking a boat along the river and cruising through the nature is highly recommended when vising the area.

The Tianmen Mountain Cableway

This is the world’s longest cable car, reaching over 7,450 meters long and with an altitude of 1,279 metres high. Guests can spend time on the top of the mountain, admiring the astonishing view and the experience of being above the clouds.

Brave Men’s Bridge

And the most recent addition to family of extreme and unique locations Zhangjiajie is host to; the Sky Walk, known as Brave Men’s Bridge, is a 300-meter long overpass in Shiniuzai National Park made of, you guessed it, glass. You will get a chance to peer over the sheer drop of the cliff valley below!
